Give A Helping Hand

May 7th, 2008 by admin

I am a 3rd year nursing student and a life saving organization  volunteer. I have been doing this since I was in my freshman year and I love what I do. I am getting ready this morning for our seminar in school which is an affiliate program of our organization and our topic for this morning is all about first aid and life saving techniques. Since I am a volunteer, I was invited by our school to demonstrate everything I have learned on our organization and share it with my fellow nursing students. And I am glad to share my knowledge and experiences I have acquired during my trainings and actual set up where in we have to rescue someone. I have to prepare myself for this morning because it is not easy to teach and demonstrate my skills to a hundreds of aspiring volunteer that I hope one day would feel the calling of helping others without wanting or waiting for something in return. Someone who would be generous enough to share what he has learned and generous enough to give a helping hand to those who need it the most.

And the seminar started. I was a bit shaky and my voice looks nervous as I started the seminar. Some of the people there are my classmates while some are not so familiar faces for me. I started with a warm good morning to them and introduced myself to those who don’t know me yet and they gave me a big smile and a warm welcome. At that point, I felt like I belong. I felt at ease. Then I started the seminar. I gave them quiz afterward and I was so glad about their ratings. It just showed that they understood what I demonstrate and I felt like I also have the gift of teaching.
