Meniere’s disease or syndrome and treament

July 23rd, 2007 by admin

Meniere’s disease or syndrome is a condition characterized by recurrent dizziness, ringing of the ear and sometimes even with defness on the affected ear. The exact cause is unknown but the problem lies in the swelling of the endolymphatic organ in the innermost portion of the ear, which is responsible for balancing and hearing.

Rest is important part of treatment. Rest will give time for the body to adopt and relieve the edema inside the ear. Your medicine is advisable as a maintenance therapy. Other choices for acute attacks are dimenhydrinate, meclizine, and cinnarizine. For very severe case, surgery can be done to relieve the pressure in the inner ear.

Sciatica (Back Pain) Symptom, Treatment, and Exercises

July 16th, 2007 by admin

Sciatica is characterized by low back pain radiating down on the buttocks and below the knee. This is due to herniated or protruding intervertebral disk causing nerve root irritation. The most important elements in managing this problem consist of rest, pain relief and patient education. A two-day bed rest is very effective, but for some, it may take several days to relieve the pain.

Pain relief can be provided by non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin or mefenamic acid. You learn how to protect your back from heavy objects, to use legs rather than back when lifting, to use chair with arm rests, and to get up from bed by first rolling to one side and then using the arms to push to an upright position. Surgery will be needed for this condition if there is direct evidence from x-ray procedures, a consistent pain syndrome, and a consistent weakness or neurologic deficit.

Foot Eczema

July 9th, 2007 by admin

Foot Eczema or Neurodermatitis is an on-and-off skin condition characterized by by eczematous lesions ranging from vesicular and weeping lesion to dry,  scaly, thick  and darkened skin usually located at the top of the foot.  In any stage of the eczema there is an accompanying extreme itchiness which some considers scratching it as a pleasurable, even erotic,  activity. It’s name has been derived from “neuro”, meaning nerve because it has been observed to be aggravated be nervous tension or any stressful situation in a predisposed person.

The real cause is unknown but a simple skin irritation or insect bite can start it and vicious cycle of itch-scratching-skin thickening-itch can cause problematic eczema. Treatment consists of breaking the above cycle by taking antihistamine and applying steroid ointment on the lesion. Stressful situation must be avoided as flareups can be precipitated by such.

Stop Snoring, Remedy, Solution and Treatment

July 2nd, 2007 by admin

Snoring is often associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) which means that after a series of snoring, there is stopping of breathing for a few seconds and then the cycle is repeated. Fortunately not everyone who snores suffers from this breathing problem. Snoring usually results when the airway is obstructed during sleep- such as when there is a falling back of the tounge, or a clogged nose resulting to mouth breathing.

Overweight people snore more often and much louder than slender sleepers.

There are no medicines available to control this problem but here are some simple strategies/solution/treatment that might help:

  • Elevate your head by placing a brick or two under the posts at the head of the bed.
  • Don’t sleep on your back. To keep from rolling onto your back, try sewing a pocket on the back of your pajama top and fill it with marbles or jackstones.
  • If you are overweight, go on a diet.
  • Blog your nose before bedtime. A clogged nose or stuffed-up sinus causes you to breathe through your mouth, which increases your possibility of snoring.
